Long Island Hurricane Sandy Road & Business Closures


As Hurricane Sandy gains strength here on Long Island, schools, banks, and services continue to be closed and suspended. Here is a list of current openings and closings on Long Island as of Monday. This list will be constantly updated throughout the day and into Tuesday.

ROAD CLOSURES & UPDATES

MONTAUK HWY closed both directions between Amityville and Babylon Village

Bayville Bridge closed in both directions at Mill Hill Road and West Main Street in Mill Neck – Monday, Oct. 29

Brooklyn Battery Tunnel- closing at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29

Holland Tunnel-closing at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29

FDR Drive – closed Monday, Oct. 29

Long Beach Bridge- CLOSED Monday

Tappan Zee Bridge- closed as of 4 p.m. Monday due to high winds
Verrazano, Throgs Neck and George Washington bridges will close at 7 p.m. Monday because of the storm

George Washington Bridge, Goethals Bridge, Outerbridge Crossing, Bayonne Bridge - speed reduced to 35 MPH Monday

ATLANTIC BEACH BRIDGE – Open to northbound traffic only

BRONX RIVER PARKWAY – CLOSED Monday, Oct. 29

LIRR SERVICE – SUSPENDED Monday, Oct. 29

MTA SERVICE – SUSPENDED Monday, Oct. 29

NICE BUS SERVICE – SUSPENDED Monday, Oct. 29

NASSAU COUNTY COURTS – CLOSED Monday, Oct. 29

SUFFOLK COUNTY COURTS – CLOSED Monday, Oct. 29

BANKS:

BETHPAGE FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
All Bethpage branches will be closed on Monday, Oct. 29. For those members impacted by the storm, late fees on loan payments and insufficient funds fees for deposit accounts will be waived until the end of business on Thursday.

TD BANK
Stores on Long Island remain open on a case by case basis. Call your local branch.

TEACHERS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION
All branches will be closing at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2 and will be closed all day on Tuesday, Oct. 30.

CHASE
The following fees are being waived through Wednesday, Oct. 31: Overdraft protection transfer, extended overdraft, returned item and insufficient funds fees for deposit accounts; late fees on credit cards, business and consumer loans, including mortgages, home equity, auto and student loans. Stores on Long Island remain open on a case by case basis. Call your local branch.

UPS
Expect service delays in packages to and from Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Washington, DC. Pickups and deliveries available till further notice.

POST OFFICES
Open but monitoring Hurricane Sandy closely, service could be disrupted and Long Island locations could close at any time.

LI MCARTHUR AIRPORT
Southwest Airlines has canceled all flights for Monday, Oct. 29 until 8:55 p.m. at the earliest. USAirways Express has canceled all flights for Monday, Oct. 29.

LI MacArthur Airport Update: Southwest Airlines and USAirways Express have canceled all flights scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30 in addition to Monday flights.
