Homeless Man Accused of Choking Man to Death

A homeless man has been arrested for fatally strangling another homeless man in Lake Ronkonkoma last week, Suffolk County police said.

Kevin Conway, 33, got into a fight with Keith Leone in the Checkers Restaurant parking lot on Portion Road at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, police said.

Leone was left unconscious and taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.

Fourth Squad detectives arrested Conway later the same day and charged him with assault and strangulation. His bail was set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

The 39-year-old victim died of his injuries four days later and was pronounced dead Tuesday.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office will determine whether additional charges will be lodged against Conway, police said.

Conway is due back in court Friday.
