Cops Save Hypothermic Bellport Bay Swimmer

Suffolk County police officers saved a 26-year-old Bellport man who went swimming in Bellport Bay early Friday morning.

Alan Brothers’ girlfriend called 911 to report he went for a swim at Shirley Beach Park and didn’t return at 1:35 a.m.

Marine Bureau officers responded in a police boat and used radar and a thermal imaging camera to locate Brothers, who was about 175 feet off shore.

They pulled Brothers onto the boat about an hour later. He was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital, where he is being treated for hypothermia.
