A 24-year-old homeless man has been arrested for stabbing a man to death near a day laborer hiring site in Freeport over the weekend, Nassau County police said.
Freeport village police officers responded to a call of a large amount of blood in a parking lot on Bennington Avenue and followed the trail into a nearby wooded area where they found Ermis Alonzo dead at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, authorities said.
The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and head, police said.
Police charged 24-year-old Henry Martinez-Ramos, who is homeless and was living in a nearby wooded area, with second-degree murder.
Martinez-Ramos will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
A homeless man was also found dead near the same location in March.
