Man Facing Child Porn Charges Arrested for Guns

A 63-year-old Bellmore man already facing child porn charges was arrested Friday at Nassau County jail on weapons charges stemming from his arrest in September.

Nassau County police charged Alfonso Marino, a retired substitute teacher at Flushing High School, for the two loaded guns that were recovered at his house on Sept. 19 during the execution of a search warrant by federal agents, police said.

When agents with Homeland Security arrived at Marino’s house and indicated they were looking into possible cyber crimes, Marino allegedly told them he had child pornography on disks and computers.

A preliminary investigation of his computer found several images and videos of apparent child porn, officials said last month.

That same day, federal authorities said they found two loaded weapons—a .38-caliber handgun and a .22-caliber semi-automatic Beretta handgun.

The investigation into Marino stemmed from a probe by federal investigators looking into computers with New York IP addresses that were offering or previously shared child porn through a file-sharing program, officials said in September.

Nassau police charged Marino with two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon. He will be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.

A Nassau police spokeswoman said they waited to charge Marino for the weapons because Homeland Security had the lead on the investigation and wanted to get the prosecution started before additional charges came down.
