Suffolk County police officers captured a baby alligator that was found crawling in a front yard of a Mastic Beach home on Friday morning.
A Moriches Drive resident called 911 after spotting the runaway gator in his flowerbed shortly after 10 a.m., according to a police spokeswoman.
Cops captured the 2½-foot critter in a plastic bin. It weighed about three or four pounds.
A sergeant taped its mouth shut to avoid injury.
It was taken to a Jungle Bobs Reptile World in Centereach, where it was determined to be in good health.
The shop owner said it was likely discarded by someone who feared it would grow larger and become dangerous.
