A 34-year-old math teacher at Longwood Junior High School in Middle Island was arrested Wednesday for allegedly possessing child pornography and sharing it over the Internet, Suffolk County police said.
Detectives from the computer crimes unit arrested the teacher, Christopher Teague, of Coram, and charged him with possessing a sexual performance by a child and promoting a sexual performance by a child. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
On July 19, investigators received a referral from the New York State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force alerting them of potentially illicit images, police said.
During the investigation, police executed a search warrant at Teague’s home and seized his computers and other computer related items, police said.
Det. Sgt. John Sumwalt said the school has been notified of the arrest and is cooperating with the investigation.
“At this point we have no indication that there’s been any inappropriate contact with students,” Sumwalt said. “And we also have no indication that any of his Internet activities took place on school property or on school computers.”
The investigation is not over, police said. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call the computer crimes unit at 631-852-6279.
