The reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who threw a puppy out of a vehicle in Brentwood last weekend has risen to $20,000.
The Suffolk County SPCA said the male Pit Bull puppy was found Saturday in a closed black plastic bag outside Pilgrim Psychiatric Center near Sagtikos Parkway.
“Someone out there knows who did this and we are asking that person to come forward,” said Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross.
His agency had increased the reward from $2,000 to $5,000 and the New York City-based ASPCA added another $15,000 in the hopes of solving the case.
The puppy was taken to West Islip Emergency Veterinary Clinic where he was treated for neck fractures, malnourishment and bite marks on his neck—wounds consistent with being used as a “bait dog” by dog fighters, Gross said.
Veterinarians who treated the puppy named him Joey.
