Authorities are offering a $2,000 reward for information identifying the person who threw a puppy from a vehicle in Brentwood over the weekend.
The Suffolk County SPCA said the male Pit Bull puppy was found Saturday in a closed black plastic bag on the Pilgrim Psychiatric Center property near Sagtikos Parkway.
The puppy was and was taken to West Islip Emergency Veterinary Clinic, where he was treated for multiple neck fractures, malnourishment and bite marks on his neck.
The wounds indicate that the puppy was likely used as a “bait dog” by dog fighters, according to investigators.
Veterinarians who treated the puppy named him Joey.
