The homeowner arrived home and as he pulled into his driveway, he saw 20-year-old Alex Debono of Miller Place climbing through a rear window at 2:15 p.m., police said.

“The homeowner grabbed a knife from his car and confronted the intruder, who was also armed with a knife,” police said in a news release.

A struggle broke out as Debono tried to flee through the backyard. That’s when police said the homeowner stabbed Debono in the leg.

Debono climbed over a fence and fled to a nearby Kmart, where officers apprehended him shortly later, police said.

The suspect allegedly stole a watch and an Xbox from the victim’s home. The items were recovered in the store’s bathroom.

Debono was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

He was charged with burglary and criminal possession of a weapon.

Debono will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
