The NYPD sergeant from Long Island who was shot while chasing a suspect in Queens is reportedly expected to be released f the hospital in a couple of days. Police are still searching for the suspected gunman.
Sgt. Craig Bier was shot in both legs Wednesday night while working with an anti-gang unit in Jamaica.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in his weekly WOR Radio show that the 15-year veteran is in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

He said one bullet went in and out of Bier’s leg. A bullet was lodged in his other leg.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly identified the suspected assailant Thursday as 24-year-old John Thomas of Queens.
Kelly said a Ruger 9 mm pistol was recovered behind a building on 107th Avenue, not far from where Bier was shot.
