Emergency service officers responded to the scene at 5 p.m., about an hour after landscapers reported that they had noticed the animal in a manhole at a construction site by Route 25A and Nesconset Highway.
After making sure the area was safe, Officer Walter Justincic was lowered down into the hole on a harness, with another harness for the torso of the deer. They brought the deer back up at 8:05 p.m., and Justincic came up shortly after.
The deer was seemingly unscathed, and officers released it back into the woods.
