A Florida man was killed when he crashed his car in Patchogue on Thursday morning.

Suffolk County police said Rick Poulos was driving a Volkswagen westbound on Sunrise Highway when his vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a guardrail about ½ mile east of Waverly Avenue at 8:36 a.m.

The vehicle then crossed all three lanes of traffic and struck the guardrail in the center median, police said.

The 54-year-old Port St. Lucie resident was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, where he was pronounced dead.

Fifth Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them at 631-854-8552.
