Mastic Man Kicked Officer in DWI Chase, Cops Say

A Mastic man has been accused of drunken driving and assaulting a Suffolk County police officer following a high-speed chase in North Bellport early Friday morning.

The officer initially tried to pull over an Acura for speeding eastbound on Montauk Highway in Bellport but the driver fled at 1:22 a.m.

The driver, 24-year-old Andre Mack, stopped in North Bellport and fled on foot, police said.

When the officer apprehended Mack, a violent struggle broke out, police said. Mack allegedly punched and kicked the officer.

The officer was treated and released from Stony Brook University Medical Center. Mack was treated at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.

He was charged with assault, driving while intoxicated and unlawful fleeing a police officer.

He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
