A teenager has been cleared of a criminally negligent homicide charge following a crash in East Quogue last year that killed his friend.
A judge has dismissed all charges against Taylor Geib, who was arrested last June after losing control of his car and crashing into a parked car.
The 18-year-old was initially charged with driving while intoxicated but toxicology tests showed no alcohol in his blood and the charge was dropped.
He was later indicted on the more serious charge. The judge ruled it was improper.
An investigation found that Geib was speeding through a 30 mph zone. But the judge ruled that speeding alone was not criminal behavior.
Suffolk prosecutors said they were disappointed in the judge’s decision.
