Coast Guard Frees Tangled Sea Turtle in Montauk

A Coast Guard crew conducting training exercises near Montauk Harbor on Long Island has rescued a 5-foot sea turtle that was tangled in a buoy line.

The sea turtle was set free Wednesday afternoon when the crew cut and untwisted the line and buoys from around the turtle’s neck and two front flippers.

Assisting the Coast Guard was a biologist from the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation.
