Sayville Man Drove Onto Golf Course, Cops Say

A man has been accused of driving drunk onto a Manhasset golf course, crashing into two golf carts and tearing up the green before getting stuck in a sand trap Tuesday evening.

Nassau County police said Chris Meier drove his Ford Taurus onto the Deepdale Golf Club course on North Service Road at 7 p.m.

The 49-year-old Sayville man tried to flee on foot after he got stuck but club employees held him until officers arrived, police said.

One of the golf carts he struck was occupied at the time, but there were no reported injuries, police said.

Meier is believed to have caused more than $10,000 in damage, police said.

He was charged with criminal mischief, reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated.

He will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
