Centereach Man’s Charges Upgraded in Fatal DWI

A Centereach man has been indicted on upgraded charges after he allegedly drove drunk and caused a crash that killed a 26-year-old woman.

James O’Donnell pleaded not guilty Tuesday at Suffolk County court to second-degree manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault.

The 47-year-old Centereach man has been held at Suffolk County jail after he was initially charged with driving while intoxicated.

Prosecutors said O’Donnell was driving his Mercury Marquis northbound on Holbrook Road when he struck a westbound Lincoln at the corner of the Long Island Expressway’s North Service Road on May 23.

The driver, Kristen Iacono of East Setauket, died of her injuries the day after the crash.

Her passenger, 30-year-old Joseph Kemp of Holbrook, was seriously injured.

O’Donnell was not injured. His bail was set at $250,000 cash or $500,000 bond. He due back in court Aug. 2.
