Cops Hunt Hit-and-run Driver Who Killed Nun in Water Mill


Southampton Town Police are looking for the hit-and-run driver who killed a nun in Water Mill on Monday evening.

Police identified the victim as Sister Jacqueline Walsh of Syosset, who was on a retreat with her colleagues from the Sisters of Mercy, a Roman Catholic order dedicated to helping women and children.

A 911 caller reported finding a woman bleeding and unresponsive on the ground on the side of Rose Hill Road, a side street overlooking Mecox Bay at 8:30 p.m.

Police responded and found Wash laying dead a few feet from the roadway.

Investigators found an unoccupied 2009 Volkswagen Touareg with front end damage about a half a mile from the scene, police said.

Authorities are searching for the driver, who is described as a white Hispanic man in his 20-30s, 5-feet, 7-inches tall with short spiked hair who was wearing dark shorts and a white shirt at the time.
