Riverhead Police Break Up Huge Brawl


Multiple police departments were called to Riverhead early Sunday morning to assist Riverhead Town Police in breaking up a gathering of 750 youths who were congregating in the streets and getting into numerous fights, authorities said.

Riverhead police said they responded to reports of a large disturbance on North Oakland Drive in the vicinity of Grove Street and discovered a crowd of about 750 “unruly” youths congregating in the streets, blocking traffic and acting disorderly.

Police said they had to break up numerous fights throughout the incident, which lasted over two hours.

Riverhead police received assistance from Southampton police, New York State police, Suffolk County police, New York State Park police and Suffolk County Park police. All units were called to assist in “restoring order,” police said.

Nobody was arrested and no injuries were reported.
