A small plane taking off from Bayport Aerodrome Saturday afternoon crashed during takeoff, Suffolk County police said.
A police spokeswoman said the pilot of the biplane decided to abort takeoff after noticing turbulence. The plane came down at the end of the roadway, and “jammed the break” before the plane flipped over, the spokeswoman said.
The small crash occurred around 2:30 p.m., police said.
Only the male pilot and a female passenger were aboard the plane when it flipped, police said. The spokeswoman said they were not injured.
The Federal Aviation Administration responded to the scene, police said. A FAA spokesperson wasn’t immediately available for comment.
