Suffolk County police are investing the discovery of a body on the side of the road in Central Islip, authorities said.

A police spokeswoman said the body of a female was discovered near the woods between Pinewood Avenue and Connetquot Avenue Saturday morning. The female was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police said they received a call about the body at 7:27 a.m.

It’s unclear if the unidentified female was the victim of a hit-and-run or another criminal act, the spokeswoman said.

The investigation is ongoing.
