Montauk Woman, 69, Killed in Crash


A 69-year-old woman killed in a two-vehicle crash a mile from her Montauk home on Wednesday night.

East Hampton Town police said Suzanne Lavenas was driving her Toyota eastbound on Route 27 when she was involved in a collision with a westbound Ford pickup truck at 9:16 p.m.

Lavenas was making a left turn onto South Fox Street at the time, police said. She was taken to Southampton Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her passenger, 88-year-old Frances Berg of Montauk, is listed in serious condition at the same hospital.

The other driver, 48-year-old Thomas Gubitosi of Farmingdale, was treated and released from the hospital.

Police impounded both vehicles while the investigation is continuing.

Detectives ask anyone that may have witnessed the crash to call them at 631-537-7575.
