An alleged drunken driver struck a pedestrian, two parked vehicles and a moving car while trying to flee the scene of the first in the series of crashes in Brentwood early Wednesday morning, Suffolk County police said.
Alcides Melgar drove his Nissan Altima out of a parking spot on Suffolk Avenue when he initially hit the pedestrian and struck the pedestrian and parked vehicles at 2:20 a.m., police said.
The 23-year-old Central Islip man fled the scene eastbound on Suffolk Avenue before he rear-ended a Toyota Corolla near the corner of Fulton Street, police said.

The 26-year-old pedestrian was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious leg injuries. The 23-year-old driver of the Corolla was taken to the same hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Melgar was arrested at the scene of the crash with the Corolla. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.
He will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Central Islip.
