The Nassau County Police Department will step up patrols for the Fourth of July holiday on Wednesday in an attempt to get drunk drivers off the street.

The county announced that the police department will partake in a New York State “STOP-DWI” grant, which allows the department to heavily enforce DWI laws around the county by providing additional police officers to work to curb drunk driving for the holiday.
Areas around Nassau County are being targeted by the department’s Highway Patrol Bureau, which will coordinate and plan a DWI saturation enforcement strategy for the next two days, the county said in a news release.
The additional officers staffed for the holiday will be working with the usual on duty police on patrol to aggressively apprehend DWI offenders, police said.
