A 26-year-old man who was found dead on a street in West Islip appears to be the victim of a hit-and-run early Monday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Officers responded to Sandra Avenue after a 911 caller reported a man lying in the street at about midnight.

Jason Nelson, of Brightwaters, was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead.

Third Squad detectives ask anyone with information on Nelson’s death to call them at 631-854-8352 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
