Nassau County police are halfway through merging eight precincts into four as of this week.
The merger between the sixth and third precincts goes into effect Monday. The Second Precinct took over duties of the Eighth Precinct in May. The other changes will be phased in the fall.
Ten officers will be assigned on weekdays and two officers on weekends and nights at the former Manhasset-based Sixth Precinct. The precinct has been turned into a community policing center where residents can pick up accident reports and file complaints.

The Williston Park-based Third Precinct will process arrests and patrol the former Sixth Precinct’s communities.
The consolidation of Nassau’s eight precincts into four is part of the county’s plan to save about $20 million a year.
