Teen Struck, Wounded by LIRR Train in Huntington


A westbound Long Island Rail Road train struck and wounded a teenager on the tracks in Huntington Station early Friday morning.

The 19-year-old man was hit by a train traveling 15 mph at the east end of the Huntington LIRR station shortly after 5 a.m., an LIRR spokesman said.

The victim was taken to Huntington Hospital for treatment of severe injury to his right leg and a possible broken right collar bone.

MTA Police are investigating the case as a possible suicide attempt.

Service was temporarily suspended between Huntington and Hicksville, causing delays and some cancelations during the morning rush hour commute.

Trains were running on time again by 9 a.m.
