Yankees pick up RHP Farquhar off waivers from A’s

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees have claimed right-hander Danny Farquhar off waivers from the Oakland Athletics and optioned him to Double-A Trenton.

To make room on the 40-man roster, New York transferred outfielder Brett Gardner to the 60-day disabled list Tuesday. Gardner has had a couple of setbacks in his recovery from a right elbow strain. Manager Joe Girardi says Gardner most likely will return after the All-Star break. He has been out since April 18.

The 25-year-old Farquhar has played for both the Toronto and Oakland organizations this season. He was 1-3 with a 4.46 ERA with Triple-A Sacramento, Oakland’s top farm club.
