Riverhead Man Charged With Fatal DWI Crash


A man was struck and killed by an alleged drunken driver in Riverside shortly after midnight Monday, Southampton Town Police said.

Christopher A. Dean was driving his Mercedes–Benz westbound on Flanders Road when he hit a pedestrian who was walking on the westbound side of the roadway near the corner of Old Quogue Road at 12:33 a.m., police said.

Officers responded to the scene and found the victim dead and the 41-year-old Riverhead man to be under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Dean was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police are still working to identify the victim. He was described as a middle aged Hispanic man, approximately 5-feet tall with black hair.  He was wearing tan cargo shorts, a gray polo shirt and white Ferrato sneakers.

Detectives are asking for help in identifying the man and locating his next of kin. Anyone with information should call the Detective Unit at 631-702-2230.
