Massapequa Man DWI With 2 Kids, Cops Say

A Massapequa man was arrested for drunken driving after an Amityville village police officer stopped his pickup truck for having two children riding in the bed of the truck on Sunday night, Suffolk County police said.

The officer pulled over the Dodge Dakota northbound on Broadway and found the driver, 33-year-old Carlos a. Rivera, to be under the influence of alcohol at 10:45 p.m., police said.

The children in the bed of the truck were identified as Rivera’s two sons, ages 7 and 13.

Rivera was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger, a felony under Leandra’s Law.

Rivera will be arraigned Monday at First District Court in Central Islip.

First Squad detectives ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident and has not been interviewed to call them at 631-854-8152.
