Friday’s rainstorm knocked out power lines, made a mess of the evening commute, and is now responsible for Nassau County closing nearly 20 beaches on Saturday.
Due to the heavy rainfall, the Nassau County Department of Health made the decision to close 18 beaches.
The county usually takes this step because storm water runoff can have a negative impact by elevating bacterial levels.
Here’s a list of the beaches closed on Saturday:
Hewlett point beach, Island Park Beach, Merrick Estates Civic Association, Philip Healey Beach, Centre Island Sound, Tappen Beach, Ransom Beach, Roosevelt Beach, Stehli Beach, Morgan Sound Beach, Prybil Beach, North Hempstead Beach Park, The Creek Club, Lattingtown Beach, Laurel Hollow Beach, Piping Rock Beach Club, Sea Cliff Village Beach, and Soundside Beach.
Biltmore Beach Club remains closed due to elevated bacteria levels.
