Authorities are advising residents of four Suffolk County communities to be extra vigilant as police continue to investigate a series of late-night break-ins that occurred over the last two months.
Suffolk County police said the recent break-ins occurred in Lindenhurst, Deer Park, West Babylon and North Babylon, and in most cases the burglars entered the homes while residents were asleep.
On a couple of occasions, residents woke up in the middle of the break-in, which prompted the burglars to flee the homes.
Nobody has been injured during any of the break-ins, which started in May.
There’s been approximately 11 burglaries over that time, a police spokeswoman said.
“The Suffolk County Police Department is advising residents of these communities to be extra vigilant in ensuring that all doors and windows are securely closed and home alarm systems activated,” police said in a news release. “Extra marked and unmarked patrol units have been deployed in the area. Residents are advised to call 911 immediately to report any suspicious circumstances, vehicles or individuals.”
Police did release some of the areas where the crimes occurred.
West Babylon: 1st Street, 4th Street, 7th Street, 17th Street and Court Street.
Lindenhurst: Irene Street, 46th Street and 47th Street.
Deer Park: Pearl Street and East 5th Street.
