Port Washington Man Hit Detective with Car, Cops Say

A Port Washington man was arrested for assault after he allegedly hit a Nassau County detective with his car Friday morning, police said.

Detectives said 61-year-old Richard Fahey Jr. was driving his 1994 Toyota southbound on Shore Road when he made a left onto Main Street as the detective was walking south in the crosswalk.

The detective put out his hands and jumped out of the way of the car to avoid being hit, police said, but Fahey’s car veered to the right and struck the detective.

He continued driving after the incident, police said, but was located in the parked car on Port Washington Boulevard a short time later and placed under arrest.

The detective was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, police said.

Fahey was charged with third-degree assault and leaving the scene of an accident. He was issued a desk appearance ticket and will appear at First District Court next month.
