The driver of a tractor trailer was killed when his rig crashed into a car, a tree and burst into flames in Calverton on Tuesday afternoon.

Riverhead Town Police said the victim was driving a Mack truck northbound on Edwards Avenue when the crash occurred at 1:30 p.m.

Suffolk County medical examiners are working to identify the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Riverhead Fire Department firefighters extinguished the flames.

Police impounded a Subaru involved in the crash for inspection. The 64-year-old New Jersey man driving the car was not hurt.

Authorities are continuing the investigation.
