A Brentwood man has admitted he was driving drunk when he caused the crash that killed two men last year on the Wantagh State Parkway.
Oscar Ramirez pleaded guilty Friday at Nassau County court to vehicular homicide, manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
Prosecutors said the 30-year-old was driving a Ford Windstar minivan northbound on the parkway when he side-swiped a Kia sedan just south of Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow in the early morning hours of April 30, 2011.
The driver of the Kia, 49-year-old Larry Scuteri of West Islip, and his passenger, 46-year-old Daniel Gambardella of North Babylon, were killed when their vehicle was pushed off the roadway, went airborne and struck a tree.
Ramirez, who is in the country illegally and has no driver’s license, confessed to drinking nine beers before getting behind the wheel that night. He had a blood-alcohol content of .10 percent more than two hours after the crash.
The victims, who both worked as members of the Carpenter’s Union, were on their way to work in Manhattan at the time.
Ramirez is expected to be sentenced to five to 15 years in prison July 26.
