Family Member Sought in Huntington Man’s Murder

Police are searching for a male suspect who stabbed and killed a family member inside his Huntington home early Saturday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Homicide commander Det. Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick said 44-year-old Noel Mohammed, who lived in the home, was stabbed in the chest around 1 a.m. Saturday. He was taken to Huntington Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, he said.

“[The] investigation is focusing on that family member that did the stabbing,” Fitzpatrick said by phone.

Police have yet to release the man’s identity.

Fitzpatrick declined to release a description of the man.

The homicide commander also noted that investigators don’t have a motive for the stabbing at this time.

Four people, including the victim and the suspect, were inside the house at the time of the incident.

Fitzpatrick expressed confidence in tracking down the suspect.

“Before the day is out” police should have an update on the case, he said.

Second Precinct patrol officers were the first to arrive at the Spring Road house at 1:20 a.m. after a caller reported the stabbing.

Anyone with information regarding the stabbing is being asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
