Baldwin Mom, Son Stabbed by Man in Home, Cops Say

A Baldwin man was arrested for assault after he allegedly stabbed a mother and son—the first with a fork and the latter with a knife—late Friday night in Baldwin, Nassau County police said.

Detectives said 37-year-old James Porter and the unidentified woman were involved in an argument at her home just before 11 p.m., when he allegedly used a fork to stab the 35-year-old woman in her right eye.

When her 14-year-old son tried to call police, Porter grabbed the phone from him, police said, and allegedly stabbed the boy in the shoulder with a kitchen knife as he tried to leave the house.

Porter left the house and got into his car, but was located by detectives shortly after the incident and was placed under arrest, police said.

He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.

He will be arraigned on Saturday at First District Court in Hempstead.
