Six fishing boat passengers had to be rescued after the vessel caught fire off Jones Beach on Friday, Nassau County police said.
Police said the boat caught fire in the vicinity of Jones Inlet late Friday afternoon, just three hundred feet off Jones Beach.
The U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call from the boat at approximately 5:40 p.m. Nassau County Police Marine Bureau, Town of Hempstead Bay Constables, and Freeport and Wantagh fire departments were also notified.

The Coast Guard and Town of Hempstead Bay Constables successfully got the passengers off the boat, police said. One man suffered a minor injury to his hand and was treated at the scene.
Police don’t yet know what caused the fire.
