Great Neck to Debut First Farmers’ Market

The Great Neck community is proud to introduce its first Farmers’ Market to the public on Thursday June 14 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.. The market will continue to operate every Thursday through Nov 1, 2012 and is featuring some of the best locally grown produce from Long Island.

We will have an Opening Day Vine Cutting Ceremony Thursday June 14th at 9am to give appreciation to the Park Commissioners of Great Neck who spirit headed the creation and fruition of the market.

We are beginning the early produce season with a variety of nutrient rich, locally harvested vegetables such as asparagus, oregano, kale, beets, carrots, arugula, chard, garlic scapes, scallions, and more. Customers can also expect other delectable homemade and locally grown foods such as breads, baked goods, pastas, preserves, raw honey, cow’s milk, yogurt, goat cheese, farm fresh eggs and a whole lot more.

Some of the vendors of the farmers’ market are WIC (a federally-funded health and nutrition program for women, infants, and children) certified. The market does not accept virtual food stamps or Electronic Transfer Benefits (EBT) at this time.

The purpose of the market is to preserve the local economy by supporting our community farmers and artisans in Long Island.

The market is located on the Village Green, between Beach Road and Arendale Avenue on Middle Neck Road,  Great Neck, NY 11023.
