A Long Island man is suing the town of Southampton, claiming he was falsely arrested after a 2009 confrontation with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
John McCluskey filed the suit May 15 in federal court in Central Islip. He claims he was falsely arrested after town police officials conspired with Giuliani.
The former mayor is not named as a defendant. Newsday reports he did not respond to a request for comment.
McCluskey says in the lawsuit he spotted Giuliani and his wife Judith in Bridgehampton in May 2009. He says he confronted the mayor and that Giuliani began screaming at him.
McCluskey was arrested on harassment charges that were later dropped.
He says the incident has caused him professional and personal anguish.
Southampton officials did not comment.
