A Selden woman was arrested in Queens earlier this week after she allegedly turned a knife on her young daughter, stabbing her multiple times, the New York Police Department said.
The mother, 43-year-old Ann Carimbocas, faces attempted murder charges for stabbing her 9-year-old daughter four times with a knife—in the head, side of the head, shoulder and back, police said.
It’s unclear what sparked the vicious attack.

The young girl was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition following surgery, police said.
An NYPD spokesman said the incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at a friend’s house in Springfield Gardens, where the mother and daughter were spending the night.
The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported that Carimbocas was combative with investigators.
Carimbocas has a history of mental illness, according to multiple reports.
Following the arrest, she was taken to a precinct and then to a local hospital for a psych evaluation, police said.
She is also charged with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
