The Suffolk County SPCA is asking for the public’s help in finding the person who fatally shot a cat with an arrow in Medford.
A man reported the cat was still alive with the arrow through it when the kitty walked onto the porch of the man’s Richmond Avenue home on Tuesday evening.
A Suffolk SPCA officer who responded to the scene was “severely bitten” by the cat, the agency said in a statement. The officer was taken to Mather Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter treated the cat until it died from its injuries.
The incident comes two weeks after a person killed eight kittens in a Ronkonkoma feral cat colony.
The Suffolk SPCA is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for shooting the cat.
