Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen probably didn’t expect her song “Call Me Maybe” and music video to become such a phenomenon. The song that went platinum, and video that has over a million views, has become a hit here in the United States among YouTube users.
While the original music video of the song proved quite popular since going viral, other music videos created by various celebrities and common folks lipsyncing the famous lyrics have become even more popular.
A storm of remake videos have taken over YouTube including the most recent video that stars the Harvard baseball team.
The team is seen singing in the video, “Hey, I just met you and this is crazy but here’s my number so call me, maybe?” while inside a bus together sporting Harvard baseball caps. In the video, the team is seen lipsyncing the lyrics “It’s hard to look right at you baby, but here’s my number so call me, maybe?” while pumping their fists in a choreographed routine.
In the past, remakes have included the likes of Justin Bieber and Katy Perry while others starred a Papa John’s delivery man.
Bieber was the first to release a remake of the song. He released a video with girlfriend Selena Gomez and friend Ashley Tisdale singing the lyrics while donning funky sunglasses with mustaches and using other various props.
Following Bieber’s video, three girls posted another YouTube remake of the “Call Me Maybe” video featuring a Papa Johns delivery man. “Remaking the video of Call Me Maybe, and the Papa Johns delivery guy was chosen as a guest star in the video :),” read the YouTube video description that garnered thousands of views since being posted April 14.
Katy Perry also released her own version of the music video too. In the video, she performed the song while in front of a pool with friends.
The song “Call Me Maybe,” was first released in September and comes from Jepsen’s second album “Curiousity” as the lead single. The original music video follows Jepsen vying for her neighbor’s attention and in a bid to get his attention, she sexily washes her car. The move works and the neighbor seems interested, but it turns out her neighbor wasn’t so much interested in her, but her bandmate whom he gives his number to.
