The film follows the crew of the spaceship Prometheus in 2085 as they explore an alien civilization in hopes of discovering how humanity came to be. The movie comes from Ridley Scott and was conceived as a prequel to Scott’s Alien movie from 1979. Scott has since reportedly said the film shares strands of Alien DNA, but it explores its own mythology and ideas.

“Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner, returns to the genre he helped define,” reads the trailer’s description. “With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.”

The movie stars Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce, Logan Marshall-Green and Michael Fassbender, all of which are seen in the newest trailer.

The trailer that was released this week offers a deeper look into the alien graveyard and extended look at the mission from the mysterious pictograms that have popped up all over the universe to the one woman who sees them not as a map but as an invitation.

Viewers also see more of Charlize Theron as she introduces herself to the crew and goes on to share her doubts on the mission. Theron’s character doubts that they will find alien beings on the mission but warns not to do anything but report back if they do. “They were right,” she says in a later clip, just as the ground crew makes a disturbing discovery, life.

The crew later discovers the beings aren’t so happy to have guests and now the Prometheus crew must attempt to escape with their lives and save the lives of others on Earth.

Back in March the first Prometheus trailer was released.

“Big things have small beginnings,” says one character in the March trailer that debuted at WonderCon in Anaheim, California. In the trailer, viewers watch as hieroglyphs are discovered at numerous locations, including Earth, that appear to link life throughout the universe. The crew then sets out to find the location of some alien civilization.

The movie hits theaters June 1.
