Incredible how shoddy a job the Long Island Press does here in investigating the Referendum coverage by Dolan.

They want to save 300m dollars in cable contract money, they want the Isles out so they never have to cover them on television or in their newspaper.

If this was a referendum for Dolan not one negative word would have been permitted or his name mentioned.

Instead this publication got taken by one late article after weeks of negative coverage and a five second endorsement where Dolan's mug would make anyone vote the other way.

Dolan's paper goes very critical on the Isles and Wang in their limited/hidden game coverage and in the paper with Ranger life-long diehards doing the reporting.

"Last summer Newsday’s top editors apparently bent over backwards to put Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano’s costly referendum for the Nassau Coliseum in the best light possible, supposedly in consideration of Cablevision’s sports interests, even going as far as downplaying—if not rewriting outright—a poll that showed the residents’ lack of support for the bond measure."

HARDLY!!!!!!
This article does not seem to understand Cablevisions sports interests.
A tepid endorsement was there, yes- but Newsday most certainly DID NOT paint it "in the best light possible". If they did, they could have researched and informed people of how bad their taxes will be if the Islanders leave Nassau county in 3 years. Just wait until the county has to deal with a dilapidated hovel without the Islanders being there to generate millions for the county and maintain the place. A Newspaper that was really into investigation would do that kind of thing.

Good article but the idea Dolan's staff bent over backwards to push a yes vote on the Nassau Coliseum referendum is flat out wrong.

Dolan's paper gave it a token endorsement in the end that said the process should continue after writing about all it's downside when it was clear it would not pass based on polls but before that every economist who could rip it or George Marlin of NIFA was getting the exclusive features from Dolan.

That's sloppy reporting here because Dolan saves 300m dollars if the Isles leave in contract money and his paper gives Dolan's hockey team prime hockey coverage.

To: Ms. Rita Ciolli
Dear Ms. Ciolli,
Please accept my most sincere apologies. For the last several months I have been railing against you and your job as Editorial Editor . In my now shameful efforts to instill a more robust journalistic integrity among your Newsday brethren, I was at a loss as to why the significant chance in quality and staffer work product quantity. I noticed more and more “Clip-N-Paste” articles taken verbatim from Press Releases and feeder News Dispatches. This replacement reporting was void of any actual reasoned thought and resulted in news I could get anywhere else. It had gotten to a point where I would only read my morning paper just to see where the faults lie and then to lambast the article’s author /writer/Clip-n-Past’er on Newsday’s electronic vehicle.
As you’ve witnessed, I’ve been performing the job of most vocal corrector of the lackluster news as reported. I would rail at the neolith reporter who presents their version of the day’s news from an admitted ideological slant. The bias, so blatantly exposed by lexicon or paragraph formation started to become the hallmark of each Newsday editorial staffer whose name appeared under the header. By virtue of this continuous deliberate misinformation and disinformation, my fellow commenter’s on the Newsday electronic version would call the political slant even before reading the article. It was like each reporter had a unique ethical abnormality which caused the words to flow into print in such a way as to lead the reader to a pre-destined opinion. The volume of pertinent additional facts which other news outlets would include in their reporting on the subject, were deliberately omitted from anything published under the Newsday masthead.
Then Jed Morey’s April 26th edition of the L.I. Press hits the weekly stands. Mr. Rumsey, Mr. Twarowski and Mr. Nelson produced an amazing story of just what you and your editorial crew have had to endure. The haranguing, the micro-management, the demeaning comments from above, the constant reshuffling of management, the threats of retribution, real retribution, shuffling of parking lot space assignments, and even travel expense voucher denials, all of which seem petty and minimally effectual yet as a total, quite debilitating. I, like many other Newsday detractors had no idea what your daily lives have become.
I am truly sorry for your lot in life. Please extend my apologies to Anne Michaud, Daniel Askt , Joye Brown, Andrew Smith, Rick Brand and last but not least Danny Janison: who hates Italians. If I had known what the tonnage was in Cablevision pressure that was bearing down on you all, I would have taken it easier on each.
I will not relent in my efforts to correct the graphically displayed Cablevision bias, but now I do understand why it’s there. Job preservation is paramount. Stay as long as they are willing to give you a paycheck then jump to the Times. I am sure the old Newsday talent there will accept you with open arms.

Very truly yours,
Frank Castle

I have been hearing from reporters that D. Henley is a coward, afraid of conflict, afraid of her own shadow, and most of all an insecure pathetic excuse of a journalist. All the anecdotes you tell in the story have been shared with me by Newsday reporters since she took over. That Newsroom is in an uproar and the natives are restless. I remember during the "Lucero murder trial", the Debbies refused to use words like "beaner hopping" even when used in testimony. They have even had reporters called me and ask me to change my language, with the reporters apologizing for their editors. Newsday is no longer a newspaper, it is more like a local chamber of commerce newsletter...and a bad one at that.
