Giuliana and Bill Rancic are officially expecting a child.
“We are so thrilled that our prayers have been answered,” the 37-year-old television host told E! News Monday. The two revealed that they were expecting their first child via gestational surrogate.
The two later shared the news on Today with Ann Curry, who in previous months discussed Giuliana’s breast cancer ordeal with.
“It was pretty much one of the best moments of my life if not the best moment of my life,” she told Curry of finding out the surrogate was pregnant. She also noted that the child is their biological child.
The two first met in 2004, when Giuliana interviewed Bill after he won inaugural season of The Apprentice for E! but the two didn’t start dating until 2006 when she interviewed him for a second time. The two announced their engagement in 2006 and wed in 2007.
In 2009, the two launched a reality show Giuliana & Bill that chronicled the couple’s long distance relationship—The two lived separately both in L.A. and Chicago—and attempt to conceive a child.
Only a year later, she revealed that she suffered a miscarriage after getting pregnant following in vitro fertalization which marked the start to their bumpy road ahead. The pregnancy attempts soon took a backseat to cancer treatment after Giuliana revealed she had breast cancer and would undergo a double lumpectomy. She later underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
“To be honest, at the end, all it came down to was choosing to live and not looking over my shoulder the rest of my life,” she told host Curry during an interview and noted of Bill’s immense support.
“Bill has been the world to me through this. I couldn’t have done it without Bill. Even right from the beginning, when we found out we had the option about mastectomy, we went in the backyard and I remember in typical Bill fashion he pulled out a yellow legal pad and made a pros and cons list of the mastectomy.”
The announcement comes at a great time for the couple who have been riding high on the opening of a new restaurant in Chicago and recent announcement that they would be launching a new dating series called “Ready for Love.”
“We are absolutely ecstatic to be sharing this with everyone who has been following our journey,” Bill, 40, said.
