Jean Coughlin handed a bank teller a handwritten note demanding cash and threatening violence at the Chase Bank on Grand Boulevard at 3:22 p.m., police said.
The teller complied and Coughlin was fleeing the bank with cash when a customer who witnessed the robbery stopped the 45-year-old woman and held her until officers arrived, police said.
Major Case Investigations Unit detectives charged Coughlin with robbery along with her alleged getaway driver, 37-year-old Jesse Stewart of Riverhead.
Coughlin was additionally charged with two more counts of robbery for two other bank robberies she allegedly committed in Suffolk County this year, police said.
Coughlin and Stewart will be arraigned Wednesday at First District Court in Central Islip.
