An alleged gunman was arrested for a shooting and drug possession in Hempstead early Thursday morning, Nassau County police said.
Hempstead village police were investigating a case of criminal mischief on Terrace Avenue when they heard gunshots down the block at 1:35 a.m., a police spokeswoman said.
Officers quickly apprehended Malcolm Harris, who was found with a sawed-off shotgun and cocaine after a brief struggle, police said.
There were no reports of anyone being hit by the gunfire.
The 25-year-old man, who has no known address, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
Harris will be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
