Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels are coming back as Lloyd and Harry for a “Dumb and Dumber” sequel.
Peter Farrelly confirmed the news to ComingSoon.net, at the junket for the Farrelly Brother’s latest comedy “The Three Stooges.” He even gave a time frame on when production of the film will begin.
“We’re getting set to shoot ‘Dumb and Dumber 2’ in September,” he said. “It’s the first sequel we’ve ever done and we’ve got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back.”
His brother Bobby Farrelly had previously hinted to Moviehole that a second part of the 1994 comedy was in the works.
“If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion,” he had said. “We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.”
A prequel to the film, “Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,” came out in 2003, but did not star Carrey or Daniels and was mainly regarded as a flop.
“We did not do ‘Dumb and Dumberer,'” Peter Farrelly told ComingSoon.net at the junket. “That was a studio thing. So we’ve always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, ‘We’ve got to do this thing again.’ He had just watched ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and he said, ‘This is the perfect sequel. Let’s do it.'”
